The JDM Civic Type R was a sedan, a first for that body style and the first time it had more than three doors. The car made 222 hp from its high-revving 2.0L four with that power peak at 8,200 rpm.
Honda is in a new ERA. The FL5 is like a horrible remake of a great 90s movie. They just tried to please the people who grew up with the EK9 and get them sold on the nostalgia. They should have actually made a NEW generation of TYPE R. Not just throw in a FK8 motor into a new different body that looks like an accord and is long like an accord.
The FK2 was a different kind of Type R, though no less exciting. Gone were went into today’s all conquering FK8 Civic Type R The FK8 introduced a lighter flywheel that made the engine
I imagine the Type R is probably built better than the Si so I assume if I do the things I did with my Si it should treat met right. There was an update DRob made to TwoStepPerformances Stg 2 Tune last year for the Si models. It softened the low end torque a bit for longevity and safety. I think the way he put it in his email is best.
Here’s why. For a start, the FK2 had the unenviable task of taking the Type R family into the world of turbocharging for the first time properly, but while that might have been met with some resistance from VTEC diehards, what Honda managed to do with this car is just incredible. It won’t scream the roof down like an older Type R, perhaps
The one thing it achieve was it made me want to try an older Type R even more. An older Integra or Civic Type R would be even more perfect for this road. As soon as I saw the other FK8 Type R
Even a 2-3-2 money shift (which will bust the valvetrain in most cars) in a Type R, because of the aggressive gearing, going from a 1.53 (3rd) to a 2.12 (2nd) gear ratio if you shifted at 6500 is 'only' 9000 rpm (which you'll lose revs spinning up the motor and in the time you shift anyways).
The FK8 wheel fitment sticky has over 2700 replies and can make it difficult to find info for those of us interested in tracking our cars. The stock 20" rim is somewhere between 28 and 30lb and I would think the vast majority of folks taking their cars to the track even moderately seriously will have 18" or possibly 19" rims.
